The 19th of October Editorial from The New York Times says "A Chance to Defuse the Catalonia Crisis". It is a worth reading article to understand the actual difficult situation.
The New York Times thinks that "the door is not yet closed" and proposing the terms on which the tension might be de-escalated:
1) The Catalans could affirm that their independence is in abeyance
2) Madrid could signal it is prepared for greater Catalan autonomy.
While the point 1 is real (it is a fact that the formal declaration did not happened) the point 2, is just a minor offer from Madrid that would be not accepted on the other side. So if nothig more creative appears, 155 article and Independence declaration will be a fact in one week time...
