European Council concerned about judicial independence in Spain

On 2014 the European Council reported an evaluation of "Corruption prevention in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors" in Spain.

The report identified several shortcomings and proposed a list of recommendations (read the full report here).

Nevertheless in 2016 European Council reported that the recommendations had not been implemented and strongly criticized Spain for failing to comply with its recommendations to strengthen judicial independence. (see full report here and the news appeared in La Vanguardia - Spanish)

From Catalonia Alert we want to highlight this lack of Judicial Independence (reported by European Council) to contextualize the prosecution and imprisonment of two civil society leaders, accused of secession.
